Make a dress more feminine. One easy hack.
For years I’ve had a vintage floral dress that I couldn’t wear. It was too shortwaisted for my height. It was really pretty, though, and I just couldn’t add it to the pile of thrift store offerings.
Then, I had an epiphany. I cut the shoulders and added ribbons to lengthen the dress. I tied the shoulders back together only leaving an extra inch and the dress was longer! I used satin ribbons on the cotton under-slip and wide grosgrain ribbon on the floral dress. I made the grosgrain ribbons extra long.
BUT...No alterations needed!
The whole thing is gorgeous. Now, I’m happy-wild about ribbons on my dress shoulders. They blow in the wind. Sometimes I tie them in bows. Sometimes I tie the long ones together in back and let them hang loose. I used the idea to alter the dress length but you can add them just for a romantic look. A few stitches with a needle and thread, and POOF! Instant interest. I used white but colored ribbon will look awesome too.
Complete the Look
I added a pair of white enamel earrings to the overall look but left off everything else except for a pair of sandals. (which I removed when playing with my dog.) On Amazon, I’ve picked out some inexpensive floral dresses that have the look of my vintage one (including a slip!) along with a ribbon selection. If you give it a try, please send me a selfie so I can see how it turned out!
